Can hair bleach left on too long cause hair loss?

A few months ago, I went to a salon get get my red hair cut and have some blond highlights put in. Instead of sitting under a dryer (which would have taken a shorter amount of time), the stylist made me sit in a chair for about 45 minutes while the bleach set "naturally".

I've always had fast-growing hair, and now it appears that some of my hair has thinned out somewhat. 6 months after the haircut, some of the highlights are still there (they normally grow out after 4 months). Is this just a coincidence (male pattern baldness: age 32) or has the bleach damaged some of the hair follicles?

If so, what can be done?

I found out a few months later that my hair thinning was not caused by the bleach, but by lymphoma. It was simply a coincidence that it happened after visiting the hair salon. I would advise people who suspect something may be wrong to visit their dermatologist to make sure everything is ok. Report It

Bleach is pretty damaging no matter what. I'm not sure how long you're supposed to let it set, but I've been getting blonde highlights for years and it has never thinned out my hair.

This was 6 months ago? Your hair would have fallen out directly after getting the highlights (like within a day or two) if that were the cause. Also, it would likely come out in chunks rather than just thinning out your hair. And, even if you were to have had your hair fall out from bleach being left on too long, it would grow back... So, I'm thinking pretty sure that it isn't the salon visit that caused the thinning of the hair. Improper diet, stress, male pattern baldness, can all be causes of hair loss.... Maybe try rogaine?

Same thing happened to me, after I was bleached I itched for a while and lost a lot of hair, it may have just accelerated the process or it could have killed the hair but the bleaching definetly had some effect.

Bleach is sort of caustic and she let you sit for 45 minutes, so I'd say that's the culprit, but whatever is the cause you can deep condition it every week and every time you wash you hair you can condition it. You'll be right as rain in no time.

My mom kept my hair short until I was old enough to brush it myself. You could comprimise by letting her hair grow shoulder-length, but until she gets older and you are the one taking care of it I say keep it short.

It's her hair, let her grow it long. It's not like she can never cut it again when she decides to grow it out. You may think it's worth it for her to look so cute now, but wait about 6 more years when she's full of resentment from having had you micromanage her life when she was little, and she'll want to get every possible piercing and tattoo and whatnot. You're better off allowing her the freedoms that won't hurt her now (like how long her hair is or what she wears to school), than have her rebel big time down the road. My son has long hair at age 7, he grows it then wants it cut, I allow him to have that decision in his life because it is one that he can make. I nearly died when he decided to have a mullet hair style but when he had it done at the hairdressers he changed his mind - without coersion.

I think little girls should have long hair, or atleast hair long enough to have clips and ribbons. You might think she looks cute but looking back at pictures over time she'll wish she had ribbons and pigtails like all little girls.

Small things like hair are a huge issue for children. On the days your husband gets her up she can maybe just brush her hair and wear a head band or clips - something easy.

The same thing happen to me I use to have long round culrs in my hair then I cut it and now it just wavy towards the end. It looks ugly so now I have to starighten my hair out every day. hi did u have a perm if not u had natural curl and once u cut it it is no longer the same. it is a new layer. unless u get a perm or hair extensions u will probaly no longer have curly hair.

I'm an African- American female currently sporting the "Halle Berry cut" (shaved in the back and long on top). I have started growing my hair back out but the transition is rough. My new growth is very course and I don't want to relax it since I'm trying to go natural. Once the back grows out more I will cut of the relaxed part on top. How can I wear my hair while I wait for it to grow without looking crazy or damaging it?

I also had the Halle Berry cut %26amp; have since grown my hair out. But I have a perm also. Are you opposed to putting in a texturizer? This is what I did for the transition stage. I used a lot of conditioner %26amp; gel. (I kind of wore my hair like the girl on the Short Looks box) until it grew out to a more manageable length. Keeping it looking more like a natural curl than a kinky natural. Which is what I was going for. What's neat about it (to me) is that I can still do this even today just moisten my hair and have a wet wavey look. Hope this helps out some if not...I'm sorry...hair does work differently %26amp; it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

I have the same hair. When I "do" my hair rather than put it up in a ponytail, I wash, condition, gel or mousse, and then blow dry my hair upside down while "scrunching" the curls, pausing to lightly mist with hairspray a couple of times. Flip your head up, and Voila! wild, sexy look. Hot oil treatment every couple of weeks is good too. I just use regular old cheap veggie oil.

Even i had dry and unmanagable hair but now its silky, u can try this Mix egg white with yogrut and apply to your hairs leave for an hour and then wash it, continue this every week, it becomes soft.
